I think we need something like “with all due respect” ![]()
I see ETA a lot, which to me stood for Estimated Time of Arrival but I think here means Edited To Add.
It means both to me, depending on the context.
On my other net home, The Well, that’s WADR. At one of our annual picnics, we got squirt guns labeled “WADR Pistol”. I can’t find mine so no photo.
The Well.
“That’s a name I’ve not heard in a long time..”
I used to have an account there. I didn’t know it was still up and around.
Yes, still around. The membership is getting older, and the discussions are less combative since trolls have other places to hang out. Do you remember your user name?
Lord no. This would have been early 90’s maybe?
GBD ? (Golden Brown and Delicious)
Too bad–I could have looked up your posts.
Or “Quick Question” … or food that’s very bouncy.
I have eaten my share of SOS, and i must say that the peas give your version a certain je nai se quoi that…
Words escape me.

@moderator-team might we turn this glossary into a sticky for the cooking discussions category?
It would make it easier to find for newcomers, less active members, and those of us who are so old we forget half of them half of the time ![]()
Thx.
I didn’t know about FTC! I hadn’t heard about HO until chowhound shut down, I’d been an on and off again lurker on CH, so I guess my timing was just poor. My mind has been completely blown that there are 2 community sites.
FTC is almost exclusively about CA or L.A.
If you live there or travel there often, it might be of interest to you. I found it terribly boring and irrelevant to my interests.
PS: Sadly, @medgirl has decided to take a break from this site, but we are hopeful that she will eventually return.
Still not a sticky? @moderator-team
I personally don’t think an acronym sticky topic is the right way to go. If we are aiming to reach a broader audience, less friction for newer users should then be the goal. If we have a dictionary for this topic, then the effect is the opposite. I have been here for ten years and I still only know maybe 1/4 the acronyms… e.g. Not to pick on this example, but i really have no idea that BTS means Black Tiger Shrimp, but not the Korean boy band. A philosophical question- should I know that to keep up with the discussions?
From the angle of user interface/ user experience. Unless its absolutely needed, I don’t want to permanently sticky anything. It permanently takes up space for users who doesn’t have a bunch of screen real estate.
You’re the boss.
And I thought it was common recipe parlance for “bring to simmer.” Apparently people are cooking with much fancier shrimp than my local stores stock.
I beg to differ. It’s a crap shoot as to what the acronyms stand for since the poster might have one thing in mind and the person reading it might think the acronym stands for something else and someone that is new to ho or doesn’t surf in often has no idea what we’re talking about. Having a sticky handy would make life easier.
