Croque madame, mimosa, latte and split a salad.

If I were paying: prix fixe with beet salad, trout, and chocolate mousse

If someone were treating/price were irrelevant: beet/tomato salad, filet au poivre subbing pomme puree for the fries.

Dano’s Heuriger on Seneca Lake in NY – what would you and yours order for dinner?

Some descriptions here.

I’ll share our selections later.

If you want to go very Austrian/German(assuming they know how to cook “authentic”), it would be cucumber dill salad, Viennese Herring Salad, Wiener Schnitzel with red cabbage and Knoedel (Gulash would be a second option) and finished with Linzer Torte

I’d order the Goulash of the Day or the Viennese Bento Box, a side of red cabbage, a side Knoedel, and the Mohn Torte.
Maybe also the fig and currant kuchen.

I’d order more or less the same!

We tried to get dinner here last time we were at Seneca and were thwarted by a private event - curious to hear how you liked it!

In any case, I’d order the Liptauer and smoked fish spread, maybe a few others if in a big group. Then the chicken and chanterelle ragout. Apple strudel for dessert.

Celery root remoulade
Viennese potato salad
Horseradish beet salad

Smoked fish mousse
Chicken liver mousse

Weisswurst
Schnitzel

Yes I’ll be ordering and eating for 4 :joy:

Dano’s chicken chanterelle mushroom ragout and a side of braised cabbage which is family fav and not seen often on menus. And either the Linzer or Sacher torte.

I’ve only eaten Sacher torte once. It was a delight.

Mrs H used to work for an oil company. She headed up a procurement team in the UK. There were other similar national teams across Europe and, about every three months or so, there would be a meeting of the various managers held in one of the countries. The particular national manager would host an evening together - usually some organised sight-seeing and then dinner. Come the meeting in Vienna, her counterpart had gifts of Sachertorte for everyone, made by the Sacher Hotel.

wow those prices are nuts. In theory I’d get the French Onion soup and chicken salad. In reality I’d walk right by.

The smoked trout plate. I might deviate from my no dessert policy to try the Sacher torte.

I’m playing all of these ordering games with the understanding that money is no object. So for this one, I’ll take Tuna Tartare app, beet salad, and Mussels Mariniere. And something bubbly to drink. But if you say the Big Mec is all that, I could go there too.

Well, if money is no object… is realistic stomach space? If we’re going ALL fantasy or just halfsies?

ETA: looking at the menu again while taking neither into account, I’d likely go with the eggs benny (bc it’s kind of a must-have for me if I’m getting dressed for breakfast) with smoked trout & the frites. Otherwise, taking both into account I’d get the benny with a salad. If the bacon weren’t glazed (whyyyy) I’d add a side of that as well

Fair point: I do tend to over order. But I’m expecting I will be sharing with dining partners and/or taking leftovers home.

A German chocolate shop in Ottawa (Stubbe Chocolates) makes a Sacher torte that to me tastes better than the one I had at the Hotel Sacher in Vienna. The konditormeister is an instructor/examiner at the local branch of the Cordon Bleu school.
