The Watch House [Bridport, Dorset]

Stopped by The Watch House cafe in Bridport on the way to Plymouth today.

I’m glad I made a booking as it was quite busy for a Monday lunchtime in February.

Printed menu (see website) and specials listed on the wall:

My husband got the whole Dover sole special. It was excellent.

I kept stealing bits of the samphire and crayfish, which I found irresistible.

My son went with scampi and chips:

And I was the sole (sorry for the bad pun) non-seafood order with a toastie of roast pork, stuffing and applesauce in local Wobbly Cottage sourdough. With a side of chips!

There were some baked treats displayed out front and the Dorset apple cake looked very nice. So we got a piece of that served warm with clotted cream. And tiramisu, which was a massive portion very heavy on the mascarpone. The Dorset apple cake was fantastic - really lovely flavour and texture. Forgot to take photos of dessert.

We were in West Bay in 2022. Had a fish & chips lunch at Catch of the Bay, one of the huts round the harbour. Excellent fish and less good chips.
