Impromptu drive up to Rocky Neck in Gloucester last week. Went by a favorite - The Studio- for the excellent fried fish, sushi and spectacular patio seating on the water. It has changed hands. Chris Pappas from Feather & Wedge in Rockport is the new owner. Totally revamped the menu, the interior seating and bar. Prices are higher, worth it for the quality and quantity of the portions.
We went with PEI mussels steamed with spanish chorizo, sofrito, tequila, and fresno lime butter. Served with frites vs toasted tuscan bread. We used the mussel shells as spoons to slurp up the delicious broth. Tried two pesto baked oysters - order but ask them to go sparingly on the pesto so you can taste the oysters. Then, fried haddock fish tacos with a jalapeño aioli. Haddock was sublime. Next time will go with side salad instead of frites to go with tacos. (https://thestudiorestaurant.godaddysites.com/menu)
Oooh, thanks for this post. Heard about the change in ownership. Your good report puts The Studio on my want-to-go-to-there list.
Sounds wonderful! Thanks very much for the report.
Interesting development. We used to like Madfish Grille so we never checked out the Studio. But we have poked our heads into Feather & Wedge so I have an idea of the aesthetic/price point. Thanks for the report.
Barbara Lynch is opening a restaurant where The Rudder used to be. No name, menu details or opening plans available yet.
The quirky character of Rocky Neck will change with the arrival of BL, for better or worse. (Though I felt that the enclave had been languishing a bit on my last visit.)
That’s interesting. She does live there. We noticed people in The Rudder the night we were at The Studio. Wondered as the same owner of The Studio also owned The Rudder.
As of Sep 2024, the web indicates that the Studio is permanently closed.
Yes, the Studio is no more. The 51 has replaced it. https://51rockyneck.com I cannot speak to the quality of the food as I haven’t eaten there. The website does now feature a menu. Certain things such a misspelled words tends to alienate me. In this case, Sicilian is misspelled. Wish I had more to offer !
And Peruvian vs. they’re”Puruvian”……
