Dave, I salute you. Appliance parts can be troublesome to source these days—supply chain Issues—so it’s great that you can channel that inner MacGyver.

Had a Speed Queen forever - absolutely stellar appliance, but almost as noisy as a chain saw. Got mine back in the 80’s, maybe they’re quieter now @Auspicious.
I’ll throw this out there in case anyone is having trouble with Samsung ice makers or their refrigerators in general.
Actually, turns out we had 5 years of warranty on that Samsung range. I must have given them the information for the washing machine or another appliance. Just received a notice that our warranty is expiring soon. Thankfully, the part only cost $25 and 30 minutes to install.
I sold appliances for a few years and…all ice makers break.
