Excellent Father’s Day dinner in downtown Mystic. All of the listed seafood was local - no Branzino, etc., that always kind of bugs me when a place has access to great locally sourced seafood but is shipping things in. Had a nice bottle of Konstantin Frank riesling from the Finger Lakes. Great meal overall.
Cherry Blossom - Kurayoshi San-In Japanese Whisky,
Oka Kua Vermouth, Cherry, Yuzu Honey; and Hot Stepper- Lunazul Blanco Tequila, Cointreau, Acidified Carrot Juice, Habanero, Vegetable Salt. Both excellent cocktails, the Hot Stepper was genuinely spicy.
Fired oysters with sesame chili aioli - these might have been the best fried oysters I’ve ever had, and I have eaten my share - should have ordered more.
Roasted oysters - Sugar Kelp Chili Butter, Lime, Cilantro - very good, will get some bread next time to dip into the sauce.
Monkfish Mortadella on toast, with parsley, garlic, pistachios - delicious but they use pork fat to bind it so didn’t really taste so much like fish.
Asparagus Caesar - Watercress, Brioche Croutons, Cured Egg Yolk, Tonnato Caesar Dressing. Perfect spring salad, well balanced with super fresh veggies.
Pasta with Confit Whelk, White Wine, Chili, Garlic, Sourdough Bread Crumbs. The sauce was great, but whelk (aka conch) is more of a textural item without much flavor.
