Any former servers amongst us HOs to add to these stories?

Evidence, if more was needed, that life is full of arsewipes.

Was never a waiter but can relate to many of the tales. Mentioned before but Dad owned a Seafood place for 40 years. Seasonal (May to Oct.) here on the coast of Maine. I worked a few summers-- discovered that restaurant-ing was def not for me though I remain engrossed in news of the whole industry.

Closing time was the one issue-- me & my brother are putting in 80+ hours a week & not real patient. The one I remember the most-- Young Couple totally oblivious to the the shut down around them… How can you not notice a dining room almost completely dark & every table but theirs (30 tables) has its chairs upside down? I finally walk over to their 4 top & point the empty chairs & say “I’m coming back in 5 minutes & putting those up & yours too!” They left gracefully.

I waited tables at a cafe for a hot minute before switching to bartending at a dive bar near my university.

The cafe required me to wear a skirt (can’t say that I miss the overtly sexist 80s), which def prompted some inappropriate comments, but as they say “sticks & stones yadda yadda yadda.”

Tending bar was more my groove, and I didn’t encounter much assholery — apart from an aggressive stalker the owner banned on my behalf.

I also waited tables at a sushi bar in Berlin in the summer of 2004 that was popular with the Russian mob. They tipped nothing (ever) and were obnoxious & demanding. Meh.
