Surely the description of the best way to eat an IKEA meatball , is a description of how to eat any meal.

Or are there really cultures where folk would spear a piece of meat and eat that? Then spear a piece of broccoli (or whatever) and eat that; then some potato? Then more meat, etc? That just sounds so weird.

Sez who? I don’t eat Ikea’s ultra-processed Swedish meatballs.

Minnesota State Fair’s Hot Dish on a Stick. Skewered Swedish meatballs and tater tots, dipped in batter and deep fried. Then smothered in brown gravy. Maybe cheese curds on top.

Sounds delish. But wouldnt it have more food “cachet”, if it was rebranded as meatball poutine? :grinning:

The Brit/European way of conveying food to the mouth via the back of the fork, food-placement-aided-by-the-knife, makes this easier than the American tines -up way, I think. I certainly follow these Swedish instructions for Thanksgiving dinner :joy: I cannot imagine spearing an entire meatball. Little cocktail meatballs on toothpick excepted, of course.

And now, apropos of exactly nothing I will sing:

My Finnish meatballs go over egg noodles. Ligonberry jam is optional, I prefer it with pülla.

I realized you were talking about the jam with the pülla, as meatballs with pülla would be an interesting combination.

Could be a bit like Thanksgiving on a roll, including the meatballs and lingonberry jam together on pulla, instead of turkey and cranberry sauce.

I think a Swedish meatball and lingonberry sandwich sounds great! (I bet someone has done this already online)

A Boxing Day sandwich of leftover turkey, stuffing and mango chutney may be the best thing about Christmas.

Same sandwich on Boxing Day but lime pickle instead of mango, plus pigs in blankets. Has to be on soft white barmcakes.

Or, even better, oven bottom muffins. Slightly firmer to hold it all in.

And to keep it on topic, I reckon Swedish meatballs might happily get stuffed into one. I’m due a trip to our local IKEA in Ashton-under-Lyne. Might get soem of their meatballs and give it a try.

I’ve eaten my fair share of Sheldon’s, normally with butter, crumbly Lancashire and homemade piccalilli.
