Easily one of the most enjoyable and well executed Cantonese meals of the year!
Entertaining a couple of good friends visiting from Hong Kong. To hear them commenting that some the food preparation can rub shoulders with some of Hong Kong’s finest, speaks volumes of the calibre of Cantonese cooking here in the GTA!
One stand-out feature ‘The One’ has over most of its GTA peers is the huge offering and vast array of LIVE seafood. From mega-size 14 pound Alaskan King Crabs to live Thai Gobi fish, BC Dungeness Crabs, Spotted Prawns and Geoduck Clams to Giant East Coast lobsters…this culinary seafood temple has them all!
For our party of 4, we ordered the following, strikingly delicious dishes:
-
2 pounds of live " BC Spotted prawns wok-fried in Maggi Sauce "…so yummy, the three ladies plus one hungry old man in us managed to finish them all…heads and shells included!
-
" Stirred fry Floridian Yellow Fin Grouper filet with King Mushrooms and yellowing chives ". The welcoming sight of slightly charred fish filet plus the aromatic wok hay smokiness, personifies similar preparation by some of Hong Kong’s famed Dai-Pai-Dong Hawker Stall wok-hay specialists!
-
" Stirred fry free range chicken with Chestnut, Chinese mushrooms, whole garlic cloves and aromatics ". What an amazingly tasty wok-hay creation! Elevating the dish even further by the addition of some fine Chinese cooking wine at the end was a masterful touch!
-
" Stirred fry Gai-Lan with Sun-dried Tile Fish and Prawns ". Another well-executed master piece from the skilled kitchen team. BTW, for some of you who are interested. The cost of this dish was $11 cheaper than the newly opened Lai Wah Heen 's PLAIN stirred fry stand-alone Gai-Lan '!! …Go figure!!
Complimentary desserts! Generous use of rare aged Tangerine peels for the Mung Bean dessert soup a welcoming surprise!
Overall, a most wonderful meal pairing great company with great food!
