The NYC Pizza thread

Ranks high there for me. My favorite Diavola in the city. The Montanara is good, but hard for me to order anything other than the Diavola these days

My daughter’s view too. She was based in NY for a couple of years and, quickly scanning my records, it appears that we had 50+ Diavolas in that period.

Looks like the NYT is also bulking out its food section with this sort of article which just seems to be the musings of one of the authors of the ‘Best 25’ list who covered Queens and the Bronx. I’m no expert on NYC pizza, but I do not rate Nikita Richardson’s writing style, unless someone pops up and tells me she’s actually a 16 year old. I wish the NYT would offer food journalism gigs to some of the regular NYC HO contributors - I’d read their thoughts any day over the amateurish scribblings of the current stable of NYT food journalists.

Ate at Scarr’s on Feb 4, 2025. Limited unpretentious menu with Fabulous NY Style pizza. Crisp crust with a thin layer of softer airy crumb. Terrific sauce, cheese, and toppings. Loved the NY style. Tasty and satisfying. The square pizza was constructed on a focaccia base. Delicious, but not traditional and not what I was craving. Nice selection of draft beers and beverages. Lower East Side vibe – like a hip run down Nedicks in the back, and a hipster pizza parlor in the front. We arrived at around 3pm on a 33 degree (F) Tuesday in February. Were seated without a wait.
