The Nilgiris - Chowfind in Scarborough

Today I returned to this South Indian gem located in a crowded strip plaza. I had been here before the pando and enjoyed their wonderful South Indian vegetarian buffet. They shut it down for a while but it’s back! On weekends at least.

And it’s delish. And well attended! No non-Desis in sight today. I hope we can improve on our representation in the customer base of this deserving family run restaurant! They have two locations by the way.

For $25 (the new $15) you get great value imho. I’m no vegetarian but with these flavours I don’t need no meat! I had: idly, sambar, rasam, dosa, puri, potato curry, amazing green bean dry stir fry, butter paneer, daals, brown stuff, green stuff, all the stuff. Coconut chutneys, pickled dried chilis, lime pickle. And more.

The food was fresh and each dish was distinct and different. The service was attentive. The owner seemed concerned that I was enjoying and I told him I was loving every bite which was true. Did I have all I could eat? I don’t know. It’s hard to stop when it’s this good. You gotta draw the line though at some point. I love South Indian food. It’s hard to find a good southie buffet. Anjappar Chettinad was my go to and they still haven’t revived the buffet to my chagrin.

Damn me for not snapping a pic. Next time for sure.
