With mouth-watering flavor combinations such as the "Boss"ton Cream, Crunchy Monkey and Strawberry Fields, Main Street Donuts in Belmar, New Jersey, is redefining the doughnut with its crowd-pleasing creations.
The proprietors, Paula Giunta and Joe Rizzuto, are in-laws. They were inspired to start their business after visiting a made-to-order doughnut shop during a family vacation in North Carolina nearly three years ago.
“The concept was something we thought we could do better, as these shops prepared basic doughnuts. We wanted to take it to the next level and create memorable sweet treats,” says Giunta, who has a background in catering and event planning. “We wanted to do this in a town that had the Main Street feel and appeal, and Belmar has all of that. We waited months for a space to become available, and when it did, we grabbed it.”
Main Street Donuts also serves signature, locally roasted coffees in addition to doughnuts made with more than 30 glazes, icings, cream and jelly fillings, and a wide array of toppings. In the coming months, Giunta and Rizzuto plan to introduce seasonal creations, such as a St. Patrick’s Day doughnut infused with Parade Day Irish-style Coffee Stout from Beach Haus Brewery in Belmar.
