The Michelin restaurant guide is finally coming to Philadelphia

I don’t pay much attention to Michelin stars (not my budget), but I’m curious to see which, if any, Philly restos are awarded a star.

I’m a little surprised it hasn’t been looked at earlier, being a huge east coast city

Right? Not to mention a huge food city.

It’s coming to Boston too, but I also don’t pay much attention to Michelin stars either. Once I learned that it starts with having to pay to participate, my curiosity level with Michelin stars waned. I’m surprised that Philadelphia wasn’t already participating in the program.

Curious whether Vetri will get one. We’ve not been (that would require some serious saving up), but it’s consistently named one of the top restaurants in the city.

The restaurants don’t have to pay to be included. Some regions/cities have paid money so that the Michelin guide in general also includes that region/city

Right - my wording was awkward. It’s the city/region that has paid in to be included.

But less about this being a straight pay or play scheme, but being that they clearly aren’t looking out for the best in best of food for food and service quality sake. They will skew and lean towards those areas that they’ve been “encouraged” to explore.
