The Magnificent Pistachio

Mint? Not for me, but love the brand name!

Did you buy it?

Yes, I bought a few bars of different types. Will report back in due course.

After a couple trips to Italy (and much shopping in Eataly’s), we have decided that yes pistacchio is almost always awesome.

My SO’s pistacchio holy trinity is currently: Venchi Chocoviar Pistachio, Baiocchi Pistacchio cookies, and Scyavuru Pistachio Cream spread.

Those are some great choices!

I just finished the last of the pistachio brittle we bought in Ortigia :yum:

The M&S Big Daddy, now in a pistachio variation. No kadayif. Fairly expensive, at £9.25 a bar, but it’s a big bar, weighing in at 280 grams. Lovely packaging, completely plastic-free and recyclable. While it is inspired by the current craze for all things pistachio, it doesn’t seem to be a knockoff of the Dubai bar as it doesn’t have any crunchy pastry component such as kadayif. I thought I detected a faint crunch when I tried a bit but I checked the ingredient list and there was nothing pastry like in it. Maybe it was from the nuts. Very nice, very rich. I found it a bit too sweet because it is milk and white chocolate based.

I just noticed that Nespresso has a Pistachio and Vanilla iced coffee.

When did Jell-O enter the chat? I must’ve been living under a rock all this time.

A pistachio bar we picked up for our travel home, but haven’t had yet.

Does that say “Pistachio is the queen of nuts” in German on the label? Can’t argue with that!

It should, shouldn’t it? But it says “Only pistachios, a pure pleasure.” #tracks

Lol, my German is so bad. And I’m about to visit the Swiss German side of the family soon. Luckily, my nieces just roll their eyes.

Is their English better than your German? Otherwise, you could just roll your eyes back at them

The little so-and-sos speak fluent high German, Swiss German, French and English! And they are only 7 and 11 years old. The benefits of living in Switzerland with a Swiss father and American mother - sigh.

I remember seeing pistachio pudding mix back in the Dark Ages growing up. I can’t recall having seen it recently.

I can almost taste the sugary, fake pistachio flavor.

Hard no.

Right? Blech.

I’ve used that in a no bake pistachio pie after trying it in San Diego at Bar One in Little Italy. They don’t do weekly pies anymore, but it was fun while at the time. They used a graham pie crust (below); I use an Oreo crust when I make mine. I also top with more crushed, salted pistachios and an Amaretto whipped cream.

So… it doesn’t suck?

It does not.

I used more chocolate chips and pistachios than called for (and spiked with Amaretto). But everyone likes different things!

Good to know. So many commercial pistachio products overdo it on the green dye and the artificial flavors. Adding Amaretto and salted pistachios would def pimp that ish!
