Interesting @gaffk, also astute observations on your part. Can totally see in both cases the sense of the theories.
Met up with an ex-colleague yesterday for lunch at a favorite spot. I was too caught up in catching up with her to remember to
take pics of our food! Halibut and chips for each of us, a cup of chowder on the side for me. Excellent as always.
H had dropped me off since I got a heads up there was no parking, and a big wait. H proceeded on his long walk along a favorite trail that goes through town about 9 miles if you do the whole thing.
Anyway, when he came to get me, I suggested we move out to the deck, where he had a late lunch and I had HH. Thought it was a clever idea Did get some pics of the deck - this place is about 10 minutes from our house.
If you look carefully at the last pic, there’s a large gray waterfront home you’ll see. I helped put on a big cancer fundraiser there - luau themed party, lots of fun. But what I really liked was seeing fav resto in town from the other side of the water!! Also you may see Mt Rainier in the background of another shot, although visibility yesterday wasn’t the best for the Mtn.
Looks like a beautiful spot for a leisurely lunch.
How fortunate to have such a lovely place so close to home.
Yes, feel pretty lucky to live where I do @Harters! Just to a re-look at the photos, and the mountain is faintly visible in a couple of shots. Many days it’s vividly visible, and pretty awesome to look at.
Need to add a P.S. to the lunch post; didn’t realize lunch friend was from N.J. until she started complaining about what passes for sub sandwiches, bagels and pizza around here Forgot to ask her where in N.J., but I’ll find out.
What beautiful scenery. I’m sure even non-NJ bagels, subs or pizza would taste good there.
Thank you @MsBean! Although they’re hard to find, we have gotten some excellent Italian Subs around here. I’ve never had East Coast Pizza or bagels, so nothing to compare to. I’ve had some excellent bagels a colleague brought back from Montreal, where he used to live, though.
Agree about the scenery, makes everything go down pretty easy, even the bill. It’s a popular tavern that people from all over the area boat to, and their food is excellent, but $$$$.
Good bagels can be hard to find in NJ as well. It all depends upon what part of Jersey. Jersey girls can be a little bit biased.
There’s a saying among my friends who leave nearby, as a restaurant gets closer to the water, the food gets worse and more expensive. My deck is my favorite place for waterfront dining.
Great to have water view/waterfront, especially if you cook well, like I know you do! Since I don’t, when I go out, love to dine on the water, because it’s literally all around us and very nearby. But we have our own good deck vibe. Will post pics soon of our finished deck improvement 2020. We’ve basically had a non summer, lots of rain early on, thus late with everything @MsBean.
Basically I agree with that saying of your friends though…
President George HW Bush and First Lady Barbara are back with cut outs behind home plate at Houston’s Minute Maid Park.
They are local legends here and had many favorite eating spots.
I remember the President in 1961 touring the damage as a Congressman from the destruction wrought by Hurricane Carla.
Dan Rather made his bones during the storm, being a Houston news guy reporting from Galveston he received national attention.
It’s been a rough week. Lunch today was at a public golf course, outside on their deck, with the local bff.
BFF had chicken strips & fries, I had a Big Dripper with a side salad. Planned to take half sandwich home, but it was so good I ate it all! So I took the salad home. Do have my priorities. Also, I had dessert for dinner, because I can!
Also great prices there, and I feel youngish when we go due to the demographic…
We go by this saying: “The better the view, the worse the food”. We call it the Inverse View Law.
We’ve lived in the same house for more than 25 years and moved in during a housing slump. Now I don’t think we could afford it. We are very lucky.
A rule to live by.
Yes, so lucky indeed! We’ve lived in our house for 30 years, and we bought what we could afford at the time, and put it on a 15 year fixed mortgage. We had 2 young children, and really couldn’t even afford good water view, let alone waterfront.
It’s all worked out really well, and our property has done nothing but increase in value over the years. We’ve added on, and remodeled just about everything. Decided we wanted to stay here because we’re all on one level. Important as you age, if you have arthritic problems. So we just enjoy our friends’ WF/WV homes. Now if we could just find friends with a boat!
Similar story. Mr Bean always wanted to live in the area we’re in now so when it came time for him to begin his career this is where we ended up. We’ve also done some remodeling to make the house better fit changing needs.
If you’re even in NJ you’ve got a friend with a boat now!
Just wanted to say I love the fact HO has posters from a lot of different time zones. I’m up during the night a lot, taking interludes from sleeping I guess.
Other good news is I am sleeping, just not always through the night. Kind of like a baby I guess…
It really is a small world sometimes.
Good to know @MsBean. I really wish I had a Gulfstream jet with a pilot and I’d make it happen sooner than later. I’d also reciprocate the boating with a trip to Aspen or somewhere, to take you to dinner or a quick weekend! More seriously, if you ever make it to the Puget Sound area, I’ll take you for lunch at the Tides.
