The Fox Den [Woburn, MA]

‘Tis the season when folks might need a convenient, homey place to meet up with family and friends located near major routes (or just outside the retail madness). We were in need of such a meeting spot last week, and a friend suggested that we try The Fox Den in Woburn (MA) based on its location being midway for friends coming together.

Great pick: super hospitality, a comfort food menu including Polish and Portuguese favorites, creative cocktails, and a low noise level that made for easy conversation. Shoutout to our server who was especially kind and attentive to us, a group of longtime friends who don’t get to see each other nearly enough.

My favorite item of the evening was the cacoila sandwich my husband ordered. I enjoyed the subtle Portuguese-style spicing of this slow roasted pork dish enough that I want to add it to my repertoire.

Very much a family and friends vibe. I’d be grinning if this were my local spot. Easy parking in the lot across the street.

P.S. As a bonus, The Fox Den is right next to the Woburn location of Gene’s Flatbread Cafe. We’d planned to grab a container of Gene’s dumpling soup before the gathering and stash it in an insulated bag for a later meal. We scratched that plan because some of our friends were already waiting for us. Next time!

Thanks for this! Polish and Portuguese, there must be a story about that!

I’ve only been once, but this place was fun! Totally agreed that this is the kind of place I’d go frequently if I lived nearby. If I remember right, I got the pierogi grilled cheese thinking that it was a grilled cheese sandwich with a pierogi on it, but it was actually pierogi filling … which is more reasonable, to be fair. The pierogi were all good, in any case. The haluski mac and cheese was terrific.

There’s a Persian market right nearby, and I think a Brazilian market as well—I think I still have a few things that I bought without quite being sure what to do with. And Gene’s, ahhhh.

ETA: Oh, I found some photos.

Pierogi with haluski mac and cheese, piri piri sour cream, and a little link of linguica.

Grilled cheese, housemade chips (very good) with scallion dip.

Burger with a pierogi on it. I don’t remember what I thought of the fries.
