The end of the Cherry Blossom

The Cherry Blossom had a long run.

I never tried that particular item but every chocolate I ever tried from Hershey has always been the worst ever - that stuff just tastes like dog vomit

This was a Canadian regional product that was 134 years old. It’s mostly popular in the Maritimes where it was originally made. It was very sweet.

It was still made by Lowney until Hershey’s took over Lowney.

But did they started using Hershey chocolate?

Yep.

All the Cdn chocolate bars now made by Hershey’s don’t taste as good as when they were made by Lowney and other companies Hershey took over. Lowney was taken over in 1987.

Hershey’s itself tasted a lot better 30 years ago. I remember when the Kisses tasted good.

Never had a Cherry Blossom but it seems similar to a cherry Mountain bar, if anyone needs a substitute. The Mountain bar has a soft cherry fondant center but not a whole cherry and not liquid like the pic. I enjoyed them as a kid; the PB ones were also good.

The Midwest version.
Made in St. Joe, Mo.
They are so sweet they make my teeth hurt.

I was looking at American candies.

Cherry Mountain Bar, Christopher’s Big Cherry, and Cherry Mash are all look pretty close.

Very, very sweet.

Also this one.

Owyhee makes my favorite candy bar, the Spud bar.
They make a bunch of unique candies, most of which I never see here in Southern Oregon.

The dark chocolate version. Shown here in a box, but I get them individually (foil wrapped) at my local hardware store. They are wonderful.

Well, they’re made from sugar and corn syrup, so there’s that. The boss at the place I worked last loved these and handed them out as Christmas gifts.

I had an Australian Facebook friend who loved a down under confection called “Cherry Ripe”. I guess they’re somewhat similar. I’m personally not a fan of cherry candies except maybe cherry Jolly Ranchers or sometimes cherry (without mint/menthol) cough drops.

I used to travel to Dallas a lot on business in the 90’s, and used to take a bunch of KitKat bars for a lady who was a business associate there, who preferred the Canadian version as they were less sweet than the American. Got a few amused looks from TSA; I always declare everything, especially food, when crossing the border.

I would have much preferred Valomilks.
