I found this to be a fascinating read. I’ve not been back to Vegas in 15 years and have no desire to do so. I’d much rather go back to Hawai’i
I lived on the Big Island of Hawaii as a tour guide for Japanese tourists in 1996. I loved the weather (I lived on the dry side of the island north of Kona as opposed to the wet side of the island around Hilo). What I didn’t love was the incredibly high prices for everything (even way back then gas was over $4.00 a gallon), store shelves being bare because the barge couldn’t dock due to bad weather and my biggest issue, total inability of locals to even attempt to accept me (they accused me of trying to steal their jobs even though they couldn’t have taken the job I had because they couldn’t speak Japanese.)
I like Honolulu well enough, but to be able to afford to live there, many people are forced to have 2 or even 3 jobs. That’s not something I’m interested in doing.
I’ve been in Las Vegas for nearly 7 months. There’s a lot about here I didn’t expect…#1 being how genuinely friendly nearly EVERYONE is! I lived in LA for about 25 years and I honestly can’t remember more than maybe 5 times in my life there that strangers said “hello” to me. Yet that happens many times a day here.
My dislikes here all focus around the weather. It’s too hot and too dry. And as this is the first place I’ve lived with no ocean…I miss it, too!
