The Ontario stores started selling beer and wine a couple of days ago including Costco. The Quebec Costcos have been selling beer and wine for some time now.
Hmm I did walk by very generic wines imo. I enjoy collecting my Aeroplan miles so don’t see a reason of buying them here over LCBO. They aren’t even Alberta level forget about US/UK as they sell some Premier Grand Cru Classe’ (even online) in US/UK
Btw I read an article on Toronto Star not much in savings for alcohol as Costco price doesn’t include hst and bottle deposit (LCBO is all in) Veuve Clicquot is slightly cheaper though I use gift cards to buy LCBO so return is 5% at minimum on my Amex (2% for Costco executive) here is the article
If they brought in their Kirkland brand champagne I would be all in not to mention some of their own branded wines (Chablis in particular)
I’m guessing alcohol selection is the same at all stores?
BTW, did you notice any of the " 10 lb box Japanese Snow Crab legs @ $83.99 " being sold in your store?
Hello Chowfriend!!
Guess what? They finally sell ’ Jar Anchovies ’ in my Richmond Hill store!!
Also, for only $17.99, I bought this rare find…" Jamon Iberico Bellota, Pata Negra, aged 36+ months " …only one pack left!!
Nice @THECHARLES finally the coveted anchovies are found in your area
They also sell the ham online (4 pack)
As taken from the Costco site:
Ingredients
Iberian acorn-fed pork ham, Salt, Curing salt (sugar, sodium nitrite, potassium nitrate, sodium citrate, sodium ascorbate)
Iberian ham it may be, but not the good stuff. It should only contain pork and salt.
I know! I read the ingredient label too.
However, with Pusateri’s closing, and up north here in Richmond Hill, there’s no place selling any Iberico Ham remotely like this. So, for only $18, I am NOT complaining!
A few months back, I bought some packaged ones from Barcelona’s Mercat de la Boquaria. The REAL McCoy and aged for 5 years too. But for the same quantity, I paid 26 Euros for a pack…that’s DOUBLE what I paid for the Costco offering!
Will report back after consuming. Though inferior to the creme de la creme,
cannot visualize how the ones bought in Barcelona to taste doubly good though?!
I hope they sell anchovies at the Ottawa store I go to. The Italian grocer I go to only sells teeny tiny jars. They used to sell large sized jars but they don’t carry them anymore so I guess I was the only one buying them?
One of my ‘must haves’ in the fridge! Add them to pizzas and use them for seafood based pasta sauces.
Well they have this online sometimes in stores as well
I’ll try my ‘El-Cheapo’ package first before even considering dishing out that kind of $$$ for a whole leg!..BTW, Lotto Max jackpot is $60 Million tomorrow! So who knows?!
That’s fine Charles I will just hit the flagship LCBO nearby in Summer Hill after the win
@ottawaoperadiva they do have some anchovies online as well but might be overkill
You can search by the sku as well I posted it earlier in the the thread earlier I recall and they can tell which store nearby has it. I enjoyed my trip to the Gatineau Costco on my visits to Ottawa as they have interesting items not sold here in Ontario
A 12 pack might be much
Thanks for the tip about the Gatineau store. I didn’t think there would be that much of a difference than what we get in Ottawa. I will hsve to check them out.
The US has frozen ’ 10 lb box of Japanese Snow Crab Legs ’ for $83!! Pity, not available here in Canada! Sigh!
They also offer ’ no filler ’ Phillips Maryland Crab Cakes!!
Ingredients: 100% Iberico bellota ham, salt, preservatives (E-252, E-250), antioxidant (E-316), sugar
Not worth it. They’re still using preservatives. E-252 is potassium nitrate, E-250 is potassium nitrite and E-316 is sodium erythorbate.
It’s like tasting prosciutto made with only salt vs prosciutto with the nitrates and nitrites. There’s a big difference.
Based on this , Salt, Antioxidant, Acidulants and Preservatives MUST BE USED.

Salt, yes. Other, no.
Here’s one example from https://gourmet-madrid.com/
Acorn-fed Iberian ham Pata Negra 100% Iberian Exqium breed.
This excellent ham produced in Andalusia has the particularity of not containing additives. No nitrites or preservatives.
The only ingredients are ham and salt
It is a 100% natural ham as it does not contain any additives and it is cured in a completely natural way. No mechanical means are used in the drying rooms, the temperature and humidity are regulated naturally by opening and closing the windows of the cellars.
The curing time of the hams is between 36 and 48 months and varies depending on the climate and the size of the hams as well as their location in the cellars.
The animals used to produce this ham are 100% Iberian breed pigs that live in freedom and feed on roots, herbs and above all a large amount of acorns.
Each animal is fed between 8 and 10 kgs of acorn per day. The result is exceptional hams.
Ingredients: Iberico ham and salt
The site you linked to also has an additive free ham for sale, so I don’t know why the original link says they must be used.
