The Barbary

Food like mother used to make. Well, not really other than the good chopped liver, which I was told is an old family recipe from the owner’s family. How we loved this place, the staff, the food, the ambiance. By now, most of you London regulars may have already been there.

There wasn’t anything we ate that wasn’t delicious. The team is highly efficient and the waitstaff very knowledgeable.

I don’t like cauliflower, but Jaffa style served here was one of the best things I’ve tasted in a long time. We also shared some beetroot with labneh and Baba Ghanoush. We followed on with Chicken Abu Kalmash (often mentioned in reviews about The Barbary) and wonderful naan, a Jerusalem bagel and some halvah ice cream to top things off.

It was no problem getting a seat at noon, and maybe because it was summer, lots of walk ins had no difficulty being seated at the horseshoe bar either. Bookings are only taken for noon and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Take your chances… it’s well worth the wait.
