I was just thinking there are too many vegetables on that plate ![]()
Having never heard of it, I had to google it. Am I missing out on something good?
Swiss Chalet is a popular chain restaurant in Canada. I havenât been in awhile but their meals are all about the carbs IIRC. The chicken comes with fries and a roll and it looks like @rstuart got mashed potatoes with her meal too. I donât remember the meals coming with that many veggies.
I care less about your menu. What is your address and what time will it be served?
St Hubert and Swiss Chalet are now owned by the same company. Thereâs a dehydrated sauce powder sold with both brand names at our national grocery stores.
Itâs pretty salty sauce.
@ottawaoperadiva , I donât associate Swiss Chalet with carbs.
Itâs mostly about the chicken and ribs, and the chalet sauce. The carbs are a vehicle to get the sauce.
We usually get the baked potato with our takeout ribs and chicken, because the fries go limp quickly, and we arenât a big mashed potato household.
I do associate mashed potatoes and gravy with Thanksgiving, and think mashed go better with stuffing and cranberry sauce, so I would have ordered mashed at Swiss Chalet or St Hubert today.
If I remember right , Swiss Chalet was modeled after Chalet BBQ in Montreal. I have never been. I might have to visit next time Iâm in MTL.

Swiss Chalet has had a Chicken Caesar and other salads on the menu for decades!
The Thanksgiving feast came with stuffing, cranberry sauce and a roll: my friend got fries but apparently I couldnât get past the need for some veggies with dinner so didnât choose it as my side. It also came with a slice of pie: we both got pumpkin in honour of the occasion!
Looks terrific ⌠bonus points for not overcooking the veggies!
What I meant to say is the sides are heavy on the carbs - rolls, fries, potatoes, etc. But you are right the chicken and ribs are the main focus.
Thanksgiving dinner from the pricey butcher was a success! It included turkey (white and dark meat), mashed potatoes, roasted carrots, stuffing and gravy. I had a sparkling apple cider with dinner. I had a cheesecake for dessert.
Unconventional weather for an untraditional thanksgiving dinner from the grill: chicken and veg kebabs, steaks, rice and a salad. Dessert was a twist on tradition: pumpkin spice ice cream on ginger molasses cones. Both homemade. Happy tummies.
We solved this problem a few years ago: all the appetizer foods become LUNCH so we are hungry again by dinnertime! Cheese spread, pigs with or without blankets, Chex mix, and maybe some crudite for balance⌠![]()
Homemade cones! Iâm so impressed!
Theyâre easy to make with the right equipment. I use David Lebovitzâs basic waffle cone recipe with less sugar and more ginger and am lucky enough to have a Chefâs Choice waffle cone maker. If you donât mind hot fingers, rolling them into shape isnât difficult. Câmon, ginger cones were made for pumpkin ice cream. ![]()
Green bean casserole with beans from the garden
My neighbour surprised me with a pumpkin loaf and a friend surprised me with a lemon meringue pie, so we will make pumpkin pie another day.
@Phoenikia that all looks so delicious!
Happy Thanksgiving.
thank you, @iluvcookies!
Happy thanksgiving to all our Canadian Onions! Hope you all had a restful and delicious holiday weekend!
Apps are a big part of the day for us too â theyâre brunch & lunch as people roll in and the main meal gets prepped, goes into the oven, and so on.
Bird & sides are early dinner, with leftovers being a late snack to round out the day ![]()
There would be a revolt if the only food for the day was the main meal ![]()
All looks wonderful - and check out those crispy onions!
I bought a massive McCormickâs gift basket at a charityâs silent auction in May, and it came with a big container of fried onions! I cracked it open for this casserole. LOL
