Terre, Paris 11

I cannot remember how I heard about this place, and in doing research on that, I still can’t figure it out because none of my “usual suspect” sources (including right here) shows up in a search.

Annnnyway, I have had it tagged for a while, intrigued by a 20€, 3-course lunch menu.

This is a tiny place, 20 diners at the most including outside tables. Monsieur in the tiny kitchen, visible from all the indoor tables, and Madame running the house.

Here’s the menu.

We shared the cold zucchini soup with mint & fish terrine to start. The soup was light & refreshing; the terrine felt more like rillettes or even a salad than a terrine, but it was very good.

Next up were the grilled pollock on pommes purées with chive oil & a salad with spelt, fennel and feta with a honey-marjoram vinaigrette. The chef forgot the garnish so came running out to add it. Can’t pick a favorite dish - they were both so different, one comforting and the other refreshing. I was glad I got the salad after the halfsy swap versus the other way around.

2 desserts, 2 diners, one each, right? No, we were both too drawn to the poached rhubarb and it was delicious. Good & punchy, but not over the top - not sure how it was sweetened but if someone can read what is after “poached,” it could be a clue. All I recognize is “limon,” part of the punchiness. *

This was such a good value, and I would go back in a heartbeat.

*Funny aside. The other day, I was looking for a braised celery recipe I took a pic of before the move. My phone pulled up the picture of this rhubarb dessert and I can totally see why!

We went back here for dinner the other night with friends. Sorry, I completely forgot to take a pic of the menu, but the server mentioned they were changing it up the next day anyway. Friends we haven’t seen since January are my excuse for further lack of details!

Starters of marinated sardines with fresh pickles, and leeks vinaigrette. Both very flavorful and refreshing. The vinaigrette was nice & punchy and the hazelnuts on top, toasty.

We both got the fish main, a bonite, which was very nicely cooked. The chicken was excellent, according to our friend. Everyone got the same sides of fennel and potatoes in another delicious sauce.

I think my only complaint was the saucing of both the main and sides, but since they were both good, it’s a minor quibble. I almost wish I had a separate plate for the sides.

Service, like last time, was friendly and warm.

Total bill for 4: €190, 2 plats, 2 entrées all around, plus a bottle of Muscadet.
