Tempo (Braga - Portugal)

When we look for restaurants on vacations we try not to hit those which are overly touristy but obviously many of them still cater to tourist, e.g. English menu available etc. And so it was a nice change when we went to Tempo https://restaurantetempo.pt/ in Braga which is located outside of the town center in a more residential area, only Portugese menus and we seemed to be the only non-Portuguese in the restaurant. The food was an interesting mix of some fusion-inspired dishes as appetizers and very good Portuguese “classics” as entrees (octopus in Portugal is fantastic everywhere but this one was particularly great) which had a more “rustic” feeling than at other restaurants before - only kind of “downside” were the portion sizes which were huge (even for US standard) and so there were a lot of food we had to leave at the restaurant.

Couvert - bread, flavored butters, ham

Fresh burrata, ham, tomato salad, pesto sauce

Tuna tataki

Mini beef and lime tacos

Mushroom, asparagus, truffle and roasted pine risotto

Octopus in the oven, punched potatoes, bread, eggs and olives

Stuffed cod gratin with mashed potatoes and ham

Salted caramel and passionfruit

Chocolate and red berry tiramisu

Are you quoting from an English menu that the restaurant provided? “Punched potatoes” would probably be called “smashed potatoes” elsewhere, though these look even more intact than that, mostly just peeled? The words are not so important, though.

I was last in Braga in 1989 and it was a sleepy, conservative, religious town. I gather it has changed somewhat; there were certainly no “fusion” options back then. Those composed butters look particularly nice.

No, Google Translate (and I was too lazy/busy change to more appropriate words)
