T'chaka a Taste of Haiti (Oakland, CA)

Took over the old Miss Ollie’s space in swan Market. (I was chatting with the owner who said Sarah Kirnon of Ms Ollie’s/Holder House was in last week). Everything was excellent. Jerk chicken wings were nicely spiced, I was asked my spice level and told them maximum but these were tame heat wise but very good. Oxtails were delicious, rich and homey. Serving both tostone and sweet plantains on the side was a nice touch, as were the spiced vinegary cabbage - not a flavor I’ve had before. Also came with a side of herbal rice and peas. shrimp and grits were slightly sweet and mild. Delicious passion fruit drink. The cocktail menu looks interesting, I definitely want to come back for dinner and try the griot and some cocktails.
