Last weekend, we had a memorable lunch at Tanzie’s Café in Berkeley. The experience was a nonstop explosion of intense, satisfying flavors—this is absolutely my kind of cuisine. A good meal has the power to transport you, and we truly felt whisked away to Chiang Mai.
From the “About” section on their website:
“Tanzie’s is a restaurant that thrives on delivering authentic, bold flavors and fostering meaningful connections through food. Their dedication to from-scratch cooking ensures every dish is crafted with care, bringing a distinctive touch to their Chiang Mai-inspired Thai brunch and dinner selections.
Partnering with local farms like River Dog Farm, Marshalls Farms, Kashiwase Farms, and Fullbelly Farm, Tanzie’s prioritizes sustainability and community support. This commitment to quality and local sourcing shines through in every bite, creating an experience that is as fresh as it is heartfelt. For Tanzie’s, it’s not just about serving food; it’s about telling a story of patience, passion, and the joy of bringing people together”
Here’s what we ate:
Lava Eggs with Dungeness Crab (seasonal special) – Pricey at $40, but worth it. It came with their version of the Thai lime fish sauce chili dipping sauce, which was the best version I’ve ever tasted.
Nam Prik Ong – I’ve had Nam Prik Ong as a dip of spicy ground pork served with sticky rice and veggies. At Tanzie’s, it was incorporated into fried rice and topped with a runny egg. Every bite was an explosion of flavor. It came with their house-made Thai sausage, which like the dipping sauce was the best version I’ve ever tasted.
We’ll be coming back to Tanzie’s. Highly recommended.
