Taiwan F '25: Kaoshiung - Hotel Stay and Eats

Checking into the Intercontinental Kaoshiung is a bit like coming home. Kaoshiung is my wife’s birth city, and we have been visiting at least twice per year since we first met in Taipei all so many moons ago.

Gratuitous shot of part of our hotel’s luxury fleet. We actually Uber’d in from KHH, I’ll hit the LOTTO one of these days…

Thanks to the IHG loyalty program, we were upgraded gratis to a WaterView room. Nicely appointed, high end amenities and comfortable.

Afternoon Tea was a simple affair. Nice to just relax with a nice cuppa, have a light nosh. Save room for the upcoming Happy Hour spread.

After a brief respite, we adjourned to our room to finish unpacking and freshen up for Happy Hour.

Captain was getting ready for us as we headed to the elevator bank.

A Negroni to start, please.

A civilized plate of fruit and a glass of Bordeaux to whet the appetite. The wine bar was obviously Self Pour.

SIU MAI, SOURDOUGH ROLL AND BLUE, GOUDA AND MANCHEGO??
Beware of the Food Police!!

STIR-FRIED RICE SAUSAGE with OCTOPUS OX (XO?) SAUCE

CHARCOAL-GRILLED LOCAL CHICKEN with (SPRING) ONION and CITRUS VINEGAR DAIKON PUREE
Now that’s a mouthful!

STEAMED SEA BASS

A nod to the Cold Dish culture of the Taiwanese Canteens. Small prepped cold appeteasers.

  • SPICY and SOUR BLACK FUNGUS
  • VEGETABLES (BITTER MELON) with SESAME SAUCE
  • SMOKED DUCK

BITTER GOURD CHICKEN SOUP
A personal favorite.

For the Sweet Toothed amongst us.

  • HANDMADE CAKE
  • TOFFEE NUTS TART
  • CUSTARD PUFF

Just enough to prep us for the street food outside!!

We usually eat at least one breakfast in our hotels, just to See What They Have.

We didn’t eat in the actual restaurant downstairs this visit, but did do the Club Lounge breakfast once.

Love that most Asian Hotel Breakfasts offer fresh salads.

Selection of pastries, not as much as the restaurant buffet downstairs. More than adequate.

EGGS BENEDICT
Mainly because we can’t make these at home.

.

HASH BROWNS, CORN CROQUETTE and BACON
GREAT Hash Browns. Really!!

SEAFOOD NOODLES
Made to order.

“ABALONE”
So says the sign. I’m thinking more like canned Mexican Locos. Not bad, for the price.

This and That.
