This Sunday, which was Cinco de Mayo, I had some tacos at Tacos El Tucán in the Castro. It is the second location of a Richmond restaurant that specializes in Tijuana style tacos. It was their grand opening.

I had a quesabirria (the cheese and beef on top) and tacos of (clockwise from top left) asada, camarón, chorizo, and adobada (basically al pastor). The asada and chorizo tacos were topped with that creamy smooth guacamole that is I believe typical of Tijuana tacos, the adobada was topped with I think a mayo based green sauce, and the shrimp with a mayo based orange sauce. The shrimp also had some crunchy cabbage. And I also had a jamaica agua fresca to drink. They don’t have beer yet. The tacos came with grilled jalapeño peppers, one of which was surprisingly spicy.
I enjoyed all of the tacos, the shrimp one in particular - it had some nicely seasoned perfectly cooked shrimp. The quesabirria was also quite good., with melty cheese and a slightly crisped tortilla.
