“ SUSHI TAKI, Richmond Hill “ - Disappointing and Boring!
S
No idea where my write-up disappeared to?!
Here it is:
" Sushi Taki’s close proximity to my home, its authenticity and decent quality food at a reasonable price point has made it my go-to candidate for the occasional authentic sushi Omakase splurge. Repeat visits and the development of a good rapport with the chef and staff has made dining at this neighbourhood sushi-ya feel ‘at-home‘ like!
As such, never would I imagine one day, I would use the words ‘ disappointing, boring and sad ‘ in describing the Omakase of this once beloved establishment and even consider discontinuing my visit there?!
This was the first Japanese meal in over two months since my return from a food crawling vacation around the orient. In my mind, two full months of circumvention should provide enough of a vacuum to build back a bit of craving towards eating one of my favorite foods. Sadly, the result was one of disappointment featuring mundane, boring and repetitive offerings. The once impressive and enjoyable otsumami now features a series of one dimensional creation with almost identical, sweet and tangy, flavour profile. Soup and Chawamushi used the same ingredients as months back. Ingredients and seasoning/dressing used for the Neta were literally the same as per previous visits. A few new selections featuring bi-valves, crustaceans like Bontan or Karuma Ebi, or fish varieties like wild Scottish Ocean trout or New Zealand King Salmon…etc would offer a welcoming break to this current monotony.
On top, drastically diminishing our dining experience and enjoyment was our being told that there will be a time restriction imposed on our meal’s time allotment! This invisible pressure canopy and subsequent rush in the chef’s pacing in delivering our nigiri pieces, created a sour note and unpleasant sensation throughout the course of our meal!..even though we ended up with ample time to spare…..15+ minutes!
I am not claiming the food offered was inferior or unenjoyable. On the contrary, for the new visitors, their Omakase is one of the finest in Richmond Hill/Markham and one would get satisfaction from the well executed meal. However, for repetitive regulars like myself, I would love to see more creative varieties.
Time to move on and eat at ‘Ibushi ‘ instead?! "
