I enjoy the whipped butter under the new label and I purchased it at LIDL oddly enough.
Delicious Orchards does far more baking and cooking on site than Dearborn.
The deli and garden center I prefer at DFarms.
Did you visit the Aldi off Texas Rd yet?
With Shop RIte as the anchor they will get a liquor store (most likely, several of their locations are adjecent to a liquor store) and /or another retailer to share some of the space.
When I moved to the area the Shop Rite in Neptune had the liquor store and Easy Video on each side of it. One at the entrance one at the exit, it was the perfect spot for one stop shopping on a Saturday night.
I think the SRs are owned by different (often family) companies; the new one in Belmar will be another Saker store–that was part of the announcement I heard while in Neptune.
And now they have the liquor store at the entrance and a DD at the exit! I assume they’ll do the same with the new Belmar store–keep the DD and maybe move the existing liquor (is that part of the SR now?)…
Ok, I officially hate you as I now just spent way too much time looking into the Shop Rite structure.
Wakefern Food Inc and is a described as a “retailer’s cooperative of supermarkets”. There are 51 member families (though I’m not sure they are really all owned by families) and operate 354 stores under several brand names. Seems to be divided geographically.
The liquor store at the current Belmar location is a Jonathan Ron store. There’s another one in Brielle, next to Brielle Sports club, which actually was a Shop Rite when the new store opened on Rt 34.
SO happy to help occupy your day and your brain!
The one in Freehold used to have Blockbuster and Liquor in the same plaza too. Lol’ing at my nostalgia for the days of renting videos!
kids today say; “Hey let’s Netflix and chill”
back in my day: “Hey let’s blockbuster and bang”
We were Palmer Video members. Crazy 3 tier rental prices. Pete Margo and Pete Balner franchise back in the day.
I guess I am in the minority but as much as I like many ShopRite products I can’t get past the terrible (to me) layout that all of their stores have. Doesn’t matter if its Middletown, Shrewsbury, or even my old local Garwood one I wind up walking around several times because they often have the same product in different areas (chicken in one area but chicken sausages in another…unless its club size, thats in a different area)… then I punt and wind up back in the Foodtown in Red Bank because its manageable, even if they don’t have the hugest selection. This coming from someone who would go to 3 different stores with my Dad when growing up including the street market in Elizabeth back in the day.
In Garwood, Kings off North Ave is our go to.
I hear ( and have heard similar from others) your frustration about Shop RIte but I don’t know, I don’t find the layout problemsome. Like you said, most of the Shop Rites have very similar lay outs so I can usually find what i’m looking for and get in / get out.
Foodtown in Red Bank was our original go-to when we moved to the area 27 years ago. At the time it was only them or Acme (
) in Lincroft at the time. (well there was an Acme in the plaza in front of Shop Rite Shrewsbury/TF - but that was a really, really, really bad store) I still like Foodtown, especially their butcher, but their prices are high and selection of products low so I rarely shop there.
I agree that they do scatter things around in a strange way (a couple of brands of tea are in the organic/health food section instead of with all of the other teas, for instance) but I guess I know the store well enough now that it doesn’t bother me. I have friends who won’t shop at the Neptune store because it’s “too big.“ For me, there’s no such thing when it comes to a grocery store!
Haven’t gotten to the new Aldi yet. My last Costco trip was the day before it opened, and unless I need to make a special Aldi trip I won’t go until early September. (I am still in the “only essential trips” mindset; how long before deciding to go to a store doesn’t require five minutes of consideration?)
I love the Neptune store because it is big. The aisles feel wider than at a Wall, especially the produce aisles. I also love that it is much more diverse in what it stocks. Wall can be a little “bland”.
Probably not NJ specific, but Shoprite is pretty much just in this region…
I love Shoprite, but they are starting to do things that drive me bonkers:
-
I get my receipt electronically, but they hand me an abbreviated receipt with just the total. This would be good for reconciling the credit card statement, except this receipt has the pre-tax amount on it! What the heck good is that?!
-
The circular often arrives on Thursday, with digital coupons listed. But you can’t load the digital coupons until Friday, and even then sometimes there are server problems. Never mind that all this means only people with computer access can use the coupons–they should make the coupons loadable for when the circulars arrive.
-
They keep moving stuff around with no signs to direct you. I checked several locations last week for the 5-lb matzo, only to discover it was not in the kosher aisle, nor was it with the other Passover items, but at the far end of the front windows from the Passover items [Aberdeen store].
-
I have yet to figure out whether accidentally bagging regular produce in the bags labeled “organic” (or vice versa) results in the wrong price being charged.
Yes everything you said. I use the Shoprite in Morganville. Lots of changes over last 20 years, find myself at other places for food shopping more and more.
I still stick with Shoprite (the only other close-by supermarket is Stop & Shop, which is way more expensive). Over the last year, the only stores I visited for food were Shoprite, Costco, Aldi, Asian Food Mart (twice), Patel Brothers in Parlin (once), and Dollar Tree (for candy and ginger snaps). Aldi is definitely getting a larger portion of my food purchases, but it still doesn’t have the scope of Shoprite.
