I hate the price label that hides the bone or mass of fat that is part of a piece of meat.
Yes, but cinnamon Altoids (always a tin in our car) are packed with important psychological nutrients to combat road rage.
I hate packaging that makes the food look bad, e.g., translucent plastic on cheese with green or blue coloring. (One kosher chicken brand had an illustration of a green meadow on their wrapper which made the chicken underneath look disgusting.)
I may have to switch out Mr Bean’s green Tic Tacs if that is the case!
I used to give Close-up for the family as Valentine’s presents.
Well, I like the peppermint Altoids myself, but I agree that Altoids have magical medicinal properties
My mother burnt her tongue on one of those. Too bad she didn’t live in the US, probz coulda sued the company for millions hahaha.
I prefer Altoids small mints, as I find the big ones unpleasantly sweet.
I chew ‘em up. Go figure, as I don’t eat hot peppers …
My grandmother used to make chow chow and can it. When she was visiting us in 1976 or 7, and my parents came to my place to gift me with a Cuisinart (!), my grandmother unboxed it and assembled it (trust me, she’d never heard of such a thing) and then pronounced that it would be an excellent tool to help her make chow chow pickle. (she went from experiencing the Wright Brothers’ first flight to the US a landing on the moon … and more, during her lifetime. And she was a teacher; her reaction did not surprise me). That said, Cross and Blackwell is sorely missed chez Meekah.
I hadnt even thought of my Grandma (Mom’s mom) experiencing the same thing. She was born in 1892 and died in 1979. Those two flights, along with Lindbergh’s solo transatlantic flight, a total of 4 wars, the Depression. Incredible what happened during her lifetime.
My grandmother was 1891 - 1980. Yes, an incredible period to live through. Plus, she got the right to vote! I take her picture with me when I do.
Funny, just yesterday my mom was reminiscing about her mom (1893-1984) and the fun she had at the DNC in Philadelphia in 1936. Grandmom never missed a vote. And when mom (b. 1928) was young she remembers the ladies getting a ride in a car (!) to the poll 1/2 a block away.
My mom is always amazed by the historic events her mom never seemed to mention. She does, however, remember her disdain for “the good old days” when women wore long dresses and the streets were filthy with horse droppings and men spitting.
ETA: Wow, talk about thread drift!
Good drift!
ETA: my grandmother lived in a very small town. The only grocery was called a Merchantile. The place was like a general store. But … you could phone them and they deliver a grocery order. Nothing to be peeved about.
Please do not give Mr Bean any ideas!
This kiddo thing is just one pernicious variant of Aisle Hogging. AH is bad pretty much everywhere these days, which I attribute mostly to an apathetic lack of situational awareness.
But I find the kiddo version particularly annoying. Not because of the kids per se (kids being kids), but rather because the parents make little or no effort to keep their herd together, moving, and out of other shoppers’ way.
Don’t get me started on what happens at Trader Joe’s when two AH families and obliviously park opposite one another…
They come with no leaves anymore. I love celery leaves. perfect sub in soups where you might use cilantro but know you have a cilantro hater coming over.
I take the same med! Got my tin right here.
FWIW, my celery comes with leaves.
Where are you seeing this? I buy plenty of celery, and it always has leaves.
I’ve seen it. I suspect no leaves are better than “ratty” leaves.
