Supermarket Pet Peeves

Something tells me the sour patch gummies were perfectly ripe and that more than one was sampled

You make a valid point!

Ha! I was scooping coffee beans into the provided bags while these kids were gobbling candy with their hands. You be the judge.

This wasn’t a get off my lawn moment. It grossed me out.

Keen observation. I have also learned that asking a Mgr of any grocery store dept for a sample taste is accommodated. Taking is not.

Around here there is usually a sign indicating how to get a sample. I don’t recall when that happened, but I see it more and more. Probably when bulk bins came back after COVID restrictions.

I’ve seen them too. Or I ask if doubting the purchase beforehand. It’s a good policy for both customer and stores.

During covid all of the bulk item bins were removed and replaced with clamshells of preportioned goods. All but the chocolate covered almonds.

New peeve: supermarkets who can’t spell. My local ShopRite is selling “Adiromack Chairs” and “Whicker Furniture”.

Not sure what else one could expect from ShopRight… er… shoprite

P.S. maybe you should snap a pic and post in the “funnies” thread?

My dad used to call it ShopWrong.

Lot nicer than what my dad called it. When they replaced our local A&P, my adults were less than thrilled.

I actually like ShopRite as a supermarket. Lord knows it’s way cheaper than the Stop and Shop across the street. My mother shopped in ShopRite in Massachusetts starting in the 1970s and I’ve kept up the tradition. But I do wish they wouldn’t rearrange it every couple of years, and wouldn’t “distribute” items (cumin in four different aisles, olives in multiple places, etc.). But it could be that all stores do that.

Pretty much every store is cheaper than Stop & Shop.

Yup, they do. They WANT you wandering around the aisles looking for things, as you’ll potentially pick up something else you “didn’t know you needed”. As for distributing things, I’m still not sure why Market Basket in MA puts honey in the natural food aisle instead of in the baking aisle with other sweeteners. I mean, yeah - honey is natural, but I think of it as a sweetener first.

Our honey is stocked with jellies and jams.
Never thought about it before, but now you’ve got me intrigued.
Regular sugars are indeed in the baking aisle.

My ShopRite has honey with the pancake mixes, and also with the natural/organic sweeteners, but apparently not with the regular sweeteners — go figure.

Luckily, the app (when it’s working) tells me what aisle things are in. Two weeks ago, everything was in “Other”. :frowning:

:::as you walk up to a store manager::: “Could you please let me know where the Other aisle is?”

With a look of complete innocence, of course :innocent:

Love that. I notice our WalMart will keep moving the clearance stuff around to make us cheapies meander more.

Then you haven’t been to Publix!!!

Nope - looks like only located in the Southeast. Interesting - I’m seeing that it’s an employee and family-owned business. I did find this:

What is Publix comparable to?

Publix’s competitors and similar companies include Knight Transportation, Albertsons, Sprouts Farmers Markets, Kroger, Whole Foods Market, Carrefour and Seven & I Holding. Publix Super Markets is a company that operates retail food supermarkets.

So comparing to WF tells me yeah, their price points are definitely higher than S&S!
