Supermarket bags

Whenever I travel, my husband asks me to get branded reusable bags from local supermarkets. The most quirky ones we’ve got are from Switzerland. My most recent purchase on this front was from the Swiss supermarket Migros:

The supermarket logo is a big blocky ‘M’ and this version has it in an Emmental print with a bonus tiny ? lunch bag attached. Yours for CHF 2.50 which is a pretty good deal for a nice souvenir of Switzerland!

OMG so cool! Hmm cheese…!

I always buy cotton bags as souvenirs.

Recently had to go through Zürich to get home. Not sure when I’ll be near Switzerland again. Maybe I ask my German friend who lives there to send me this bag haha…

Love this, I tend to pick these up too. Here’s our latest, from Sao Miguel.

Oh, that one’s so pretty!

I do love the cheese one that started this thread, too.

I also take the UK equivalents as gifts for friends and family living abroad. Most recently, I sent a Percy Pig carrier bag to my 7 year old niece who lives in Switzerland. Pigs are her favourite animal.

And a selection of Waitrose bags for an Englishwoman I know living in Vietnam:

And how could they not be? Pigs are smart, funny & social.

Percy Pig is an iconic product from Marks and Spencer. They sell a range of vegetarian Percy Pig sweets free from gelatin - I sent a selection of those to my niece as well. She will not consume pork products.

I love  that Migros cheese bag!

And my first reusable bag actually came from England! None of my local supermarkets had them back in the late 90s/early 2000s, at least not that I can recall. Maybe Whole Foods did, but I didn’t shop there that often.

After visiting my youngest stepbrother and his family in Richmond in the early 2000s, and I’ve always loved going to supermarkets in new places I visit, his wife sent back a Tesco bag with my Mom a year or so later as a surprise for me. It’s GREAT for carrying in larger, heavy items I buy for our work kitchen. I call it the Big BLUE Bag, however.

I have lots of others. I think I got this one at Ocean State Job Lot because it was slightly larger than a regular grocery bag (paper or reusable) and I love the sunset.

My oldest bags are original Trader Joe’s and Wegmans purple Grape bags from when they opened near me. If I go into TJs with one of their red bags now, only the older staff remember the bags. LOL Both bags are in rough shape and should probably be retired, since I have enough to replace them.

Ha! I love that you have one of those old school Tesco blue ‘green’ bags.

I recently bought this reusable carrier bag from a local store, just because it is cute. But my son has commandeered it as a joke gym bag.
