Summer Restaurant Week in NYC, July 25 to August 19th...

This year participating restaurants are offering 3-course luncheons for $29 and 3-course dinners for $42. Of course, there are all the usual caveats so read the deals carefully. Any takers?

I have never been a fan of restaurant week - I never feel like the food/service is as good as it is during normal times. Plus, I want to order what I want from a full menu!

I enjoy RW- it’s the perfect excuse to take off a few hours from work and have a long leisurely lunch somewhere new. Or in this case somewhere old- Tom Colicchio’s very first restaurant Craft. I was honestly a little surprised to see this on the Restaurant Week list and with such a great menu of options. My friend and I had a little trouble deciding what to order but in the end I think we choose extremely well.

To begin Fluke Crudo with melon, pickled ginger and cilantro and Chilled Zucchini Soup with sweet corn, gold bar squash and shrimp. I eat a lot of Fluke Crudo (being that it’s on just about every menu these days) and this version was excellent. I absolutely hate cilantro so I took that off but the dish didn’t suffer a bit. The melon and jalapeno gave a spicy, fruity punch to the fish and the seeds added a satisfying crunch to each bite.

For mains a hearty PBLT with big slabs of pork belly, bibb lettuce, tomato and basil aioli on grilled sourdough bread and an amazing Roasted Grouper with smoked tomato, fennel and black olive oil. We both ended our meal with a Peach Tart Tatin & vanilla ice cream; the perfect summer dessert. Restaurant week lunch at Craft is $35 instead of the standard city $29 but service is included in that cost as well. I honestly enjoyed my meal so much I’m already planning to go back once more before the special ends.
