Sounds like you will have an amazing trip! I would switch your first two meals. Roscioli is excellent if you order carefully (Katie Parla is still on the money here), but it is ever like eating in a deli (what it is), so I always think lunch is a better choice here, and in my opinion the carbonara pasta is amazing here.
The other question I have is whether you are in Rome on a Sunday? If so, I might choose to eat Sunday lunch at Cesare al Casaletto, and depending on the weather, it might still be pleasant to eat lunch on their covered terrace (that I think also has some heat lamps, though I wouldn’t swear to this), but I had a lovely Sunday lunch a couple of years ago at T’giving time. It is not “fine” dining, but full of Italian families having their Sunday lunch.
We arrived in Rome on monday evening, and as our friend want to join us at Roscioli, so we are stuck for dinner.
We will not be in Rome on sunday . We were told Chef Leonardo is at Al Pellegrino during lunch service and at Al Casaletto during dinner service, and the menu is different at both place, and we prefer Al Casaletto meu , hen ce we pick dinner. Have you been to both
I have not been to Rome since they opened the new location, sorry! I would go for dinner to Al Casaletto, though, if not on Sunday, I think, especially if you know that that is when Chef is in residence.
I will be interested to hear your impressions of Roscioli in the evening! Guessing it will not feel like “stuck!” I’m partial to the burrata and semi-dried tomatoes and their mortadella as well as the carbonara. Also, from the bread basket, the pizza bianca. Hope you have an amazing time!
We are going to the reale in castel di sangro by niko romito , one of the main reason we travel to italy on this trip.
Yes it’s the Al convento in Cetara. We are not sure if it’s open for our date as their website is not taking reservation from Nov 7 till 29, wonder if they are closed for holiday. We have Acquapazza as back up if they are not open.
I knew you’ve been to both places, which one is a better choice in terms of quality of ingredient?
I prefer Acquapazza but have not been to Al Convento in more than ten years and they have upped their game since then. Was just at Acquapazza a year ago and still love it… Outside table affords good view of the “street scene.”
We went to Monti years ago and liked it very much. Can be a tough reservation, at least that has been the case. Cuisine is from the Marche, a change from the Roman classics. Mushrooms, game, etc - I have a fond recollection from years past of their sweetbreads with fresh porcini, yum.
btw if you like wine, you should make sure to try some of the reds from Lazio at the Roman places - wines like Cesanese from Olevano Romano for example are really delicious and make more sense than those from other regions. As you must know good wine selection at Cesare al Casaletto.
Sorry, just saw this question. Yes, and yes. It’s a bustling trattoria with excellent food. I’ve only been once two years ago, somewhere on here I think I wrote about the meal.
I can’t wait to read your food impressions, Silverlim!
Particularly interested to know whether or not you went to Al Moro, which seems to divide tourists into two groups–love or hate.
