I have been on Mounjaro, a GLP-1 medication, for four months. The experience is more complex than Special Diets covers. The thread there is mostly about Ozempic, which is chemically different from similar meds. Concomitant use of meds for other conditions affects GLP-1 use and results in major ways. Effectiveness and side effects very much vary from patient to patient, as does appetite and interest in food.
With more insurance plans now covering GLP-1 meds, increasing supply, and lower copays, there is a leap in available supplements and recipes for the high protein and fluid consumption these meds require. It is challenging, and sometimes impossible, to balance reduced appetite with adequate nutrition. Use of these meds is a special lifestyle, not just a special diet.
How many HOs are on either type of medication? From that one thread it seems like only a handful. Not sure there’s the critical mass required to support a whole board.
This is the first time I looked for relevant experiences/suggestions because I felt I first needed to have been on Mounjaro long enough to make a contribution to the subject. There are GLP-1 users who are embarrassed to admit doing so, especially if they aren’t diabetic (I am, and have other medical problems that would be helped by weight loss). Replies to this board suggestion may reveal the number of HOnions for whom it is relevant.
Could you maybe start a Mounjaro-specific topic on Special Diets? And say you are not looking for opinions on the medication but only medication-specific advice? I sympathize about folks offering well-meaning but unhelpful advice but it seems to be unavoidable.
I’d suggest in this case, using the Specific Diets board for the topics you may want to create, not because the topics fit perfectly underneath Specific Diets, but rather the discussions themselves are the most important relative to the accuracy of the name of the board. Oftentimes when the discussions are good, it doesn’t even matter if folks miscategorize the topics.
In this case, if the traffic warrants a new board, we’ll create the new board organically.
