There are some good late night taco places on Mission St and surround streets - Tacos El Charro (Mission & 18th), Rosita’s (Mission & 21st), Santo Toribo (21st & Capp), Tacos King Maya (Mission & 22nd). The Tijuana hot fog cart on Valencia & 16th is also a regular late night spot after some cocktails close by. Beehive and especially ABV in this area have excellent but sometimes more importantly kitchen which are open late - especially ABV has a great burger and if you order also the fries the will come with plenty of octopus pieces
We have dived into the late night taco world in Oakland but the one in San Jose might be hard to beat
What do you mean the fries come with octopus pieces?
Their burger doesn’t come with fries and so you can either order their regular fries or octopus alla plancha which a large portion of fries with plenty of octopus pieces included
ABV has really good food and cocktails. I’ll check out the other taco places, although I’n not regularly out late these days lol.
I wonder if the Ojo de Agua is the same one that was a favorite of mine in Oakland?
I cruised the “miracle taco strip” today. I haven’t been there in a while, but driving 880 on the way home it was lunchtime, I had nowhere specific to go, and for once I actually had cash on me (this is so rare, I actually left for vacation with not even a penny on me). It was a sign!
I also went for the lamb barbacoa. Yum!
I was glad to see it was bustling, despite the current Latino-unfriendly political climate.
Leo’s Tacos, Lincoln Blvd and Great Highway (basically right at Ocean Beach).
Leo’s is a Los Angeles vendor with a dozen trucks, specializing in al pastor tacos. This is their first truck outside of LA (thanks for the tip @Aubergine !). Pastor was moist and flavorful with large pineapple chunks, very good. The carne asada was a pass. Tortillas were not homemade. $3/taco. They wrap all the condiments in tied up baggies - limes, chopped onion and cilantro, roast onion and radishes, and good green and orange salsas. Great to have a good pastor vendor in SF, will definitely return for more.
They have vampiro…(that’s good to know)
I had some delicious al pastor tacos tonight from Tacos el Charro on Mission and 18th. The tortillas are pre made I think but nice and pliable and seasoned with fat from the grill. The al pastor was very good - juicy and tender with a little crispy char. Cilantro, onions, and pineapple were the garnishes. $4 a taco.
There’s a couple of tables with squeeze bottles of salsa - a creamy red sauce, a creamy avocado salsa, and a spicy red salsa.
Taco close up.
Trompo in action.
If you go down south three blocks, there is Rosita’s Kitchen (also open late into the night with 1-2tables) - they make their own tortillas and have also a larger variety of offers
Thanks, will have to check that out sometime!
