HIGHLIGHTS

  • Forty-eight percent of spice containers sampled showed evidence of MS2 cross-contamination.
  • Spice containers had the highest MS2 concentrations across kitchen surfaces.
  • Spice containers may be a key vehicle for cross-contamination.

Interestingly, knives, cutting boards and frying pans intended for sink washing have a significantly lower frequency of cross contamination than those for dishwashers.

" However, the cutting boards and frying pan and electric grill handles that were intended for the dishwasher had a significantly higher frequency of cross-contamination than those intended for the sink (P < 0.05)."
