Spadaro New Rochelle

We had a late lunch/early dinner at Spadaro for Mother’s Day. We had originally eaten there when it was first open and had been reviewed by the NYT. About a year ago, I had lunch there with a friend. This friend and I have been pretty much all over the county having one disappointing meal after another in the various Italian restaurants, but Spadaro was different. I happily enjoyed a wonderful Roman meal. We started with the braised artichoke, calamari and meatballs. All were super delicious. My bucatini al matriciana was wonderful as were my son’s carbonara and my husband’s fusilli with three kinds of mushrooms and sausages.

I think that this is a place that gets overlooked with all the new restaurants, but for my money, there is no better Italian spot in the area. For once I didn’t get the usual bowl of mush. Everything was cooked perfectly al dente. Pay attention when the server recites the dishes – there is no printed menu.

Different meal, but same location (well the same shopping center), place is called chickens gone wild. Really good grilled chicken served on pita bread. Try the sloppy grilled chicken. Chicken with sauteed onions and bbq sauce. Worth going to. Glad you enjoyed your meal at Spadaro.

My parents moved back to RI from Port Chester a couple of years ago but my brother and his family still lives in Mamaroneck. The ‘rents periodically visit by Amtrak to NRO and are heading down there at the end of May. We’ve gone to 25 North in Mamaroneck when we’re all visiting; is Spadaro similar if you’re familiar with 25 North?

In any case, thanks for the report.

Sorry, I am not familiar with 25 North in Mamaroneck. Spadaro is a very classic Roman restaurant and although they serve many kinds of dishes, the emphasis is on Roman cuisine with all the typical pastas Rome is known for. It is a small, casual restaurant , not unlike the kind of trattoria you’d find in Italy. Another great Italian restaurant in Mamaroneck is Augustine’s Salumeria, which has a Micheline Bib Gourmand. It is more inventive Italian as opposed to classic Roman like Spadaro.

I did clock that spot as we were leaving. I’ll stop in next time I am in the area.
