Soups in [Toronto]

Yup Le Fin Du Monde is my fav beer (not the anniversary edition I had today picked up from LCBO). One can get the original in variety packs nowadays and Pai restaurant among others sell it too. Ottawa it was common enough due to proximity of Quebec I assume. Brilliant stuff

Where do you get Fin du Monde in Toronto? Just about any Unibroue product is great.

LCBO has the anniversary edition and the original is part of the variety pack from unibroue nowadays.
Something is off with the anniversary edition though imo

Yeah the 30th anniversary versions are quite different animals. Unibroue’s version is lighter and uses maple syrup. Godspeed’s version as usual introduces Japanese ingredients like daidai citrus, Japanese dark sugar, and their own yeast strain. All versions from the different breweries were offered on tap at one point.

CMW you can also get a mix pack at the beer store of 6 different varieties.

Had the Soft Tofu Soup with the beef add on from owl of minerva.
I think it’s better in the restaurant as I didn’t enjoy it much. Not in pic kimchi and rice which I skipped.

Here is the Cabbage Borscht with beef from Dave’s Genuine Deli. $20 for 1 litre for a refrigerated container.

Soup is also available by the bowl, for dine in, take-out, or delivery.

Dave’s also has chicken noodle soup, matzo ball soup, and split pea soup, which I have not tried yet. Kreplach are also available.

Haven’t had them since the Gerrard East location closed. Must find a way to fit them in.

Big Way Bloor ( 559 Bloor St W)
I love soup – almost any kind. A friend suggested going to this small chain Korean hotpot. My last Chinatown hotpot experience put me off. Wasn’t keen and the cost was much higher than expected. But I was game for an outing so I went along. Unfamiliar concept for me - metal pots and tongs and a long counter with the solid ingredients. I chose 2 shrimp, 2 squid rings, 2 lamb rolls, 2 belly pork roll, soft tofu, bok choy. enoki mushrooms. Mini Chinese donut. Took the bowl to the counter where it weighed in around $13. I chose the mildly spicy Mala broth with sesame paste and they brought it to our table when it was ready, along with a lychee lemonade. Thoroughly enjoyed it and appreciated I’d been able to customise the ingredients and the size. After we’d finished they brought us a mini yube soft-serve. Service was amazing - they really helped me choose and even added my ingredients for me because I was incapacitated. I’ll go again

Had the tom yum delivery from Pai main sized. Decent portion but one isn’t allowed to adjust spice level. OK I guess though I prefer the one that’s from can over this! Made by Aroy D packs a punch and one can add premium ingredients over what’s included in this. Came with a side of rice as well.
