Slamwich Scratch Kitchen, Madison

Pure heaven. If I were ever to get into the restaurant biz, this is the sort of place I’d love to be involved with. I just wish it was closer. I’m totally unfamiliar with the area and what occupied the space previously, but it must have been a greasy spoon diner. It still looks and feels like a greasy spoon diner but the sandwiches are exquisite. We had a dirty jerz duck (duck confit sloppy joe with an onion ring), pop that pastrami (house cured brisket, swiss and special sauce), the fallen hog (roasted pork, apple fig chutney, house made ricotta, mustard greens), slam burger (ground brisket and short rib topped with a fried egg and sauteed onion), and a snuffalafelgus (falafel, hummus, cucumber, picked onion). Also added an order of rosemary fries. Everything we ate was outstanding. Located not far from Route 24. If you are ever in the area, it is a must try.
