Tiong Bahru Bakery was set-up in 2012 by French TV celebrity-baker, Gontran Cherrier, together with his Singaporean business partner, Cynthia Chua, of the Spa Esprit Group. The first bakery-cafe was named after the small, colourful neighbourhood where it was set-up.
Unlike Gontran Cherrier bakeries in Paris or elsewhere in France, which do most of their business as takeouts, Singaporeans prefer dining-in, and also tend to opt for more savoury items.
Our breakfast at its rather busy River Valley branch - very popular due its pleasant location on the foothills of Fort Canning.
Selection of quiches:
Our choice: a smoked salmon and spinach quiche.
Huge selection of filled croissant sandwiches.:
We opted for the Brie-and-roasted mushroom croissant
And a ham-and-cheese croissant.
Sweet pastries
The Raisin Danish/Escargot
Lemon tart
Some of the best caffeine beverages in the area:
