Silliness and Food Funnies for 2024

Much virtual applause, @CCE. All of those were stellar contributions! (And I have to say I love the lemon meringuin - they’re REAL!)

I am so grateful for these posts although I shouldn’t be reading them. I think I just busted a few layers of stitches. On the mend!

Well they say laughter is the best medicine. Glad you’re feeling well enough to giggle and glad to hear you’re on the mend!

I would too . . . except in PA milk and wine would never mix.

I highly recommend melted cheese for whatever ails ya.

HBO ran a comedy called Not Necessarily The News. Rich Hall was a cast member pre SNL days, and had a weekly segment on made-up words he called “Sniglets”.

For example, the act of pressing the elevator call button multiple times to try to speed it up was (straightforwardly enough) called “Ellacceleration”.

And “Purpitation” was the act of ditching something far from its original grocery shelf once you’d figured out you no longer wanted it.

I LOVED Sniglets! The one I always remembered was “flen” - the crusty residue at the top of the ketchup bottle. I use it to this day.

And Doork - a person who pushes on a door marked “pull” and vice-versa.

And maybe this is what @mig has been dealing with recently.

Neutron Peas - n. Tiny green objects in TV dinners that remain frozen even when the rest of the food has been microwaved beyond recognition.

Years ago, I worked in a high rise. I had pushed the down button (to call the elevator) it lit up, so I stepped back and waited.
Another gentleman walked up carrying way too many boxes. He re-positioned the boxes (nearly dropping all of them), so he could extend his index finger and push the down button again and again. He could clearly see that it was lit, but continued in vain to make the elevator arrive quicker by repeatedly pushing the down button. Again, almost dropping all of the boxes he finally stepped back. I asked him if all that button pushing made the elevator arrive quicker. He said “No… but it makes me feel better.”

Suggestion for COTM? Apparently Ms. Hew is a nutritionist with a few salacious sounding cookbook titles.

Given the repute about how hot those character costumes can be, it was probably the warmest thing s/he could find to wear out there…
