Shanghai Dumpling King [San Francisco, Duboce Triangle]

I had dinner recently at the Shanghai Dumpling King in Duboce Triangle.

The menu - in addition to Shanghainese dishes, there are also some Sichuan dishes (e.g. mapo tofu, water boiled fish) and also some Cantonese dishes.

R2. 上海炒粗麵 ($14)
Stir Fried Noodle Shanghai Style
I had the Shanghai style thick chow mein, which was good. There were thick udon-like noodles, cabbage, onions, scallions, chicken, and beef.

D4. 上海小籠包 ($13)
Shanghai Steamed Soup Dumpling (8)
I also tried the XLB, natch. This was also good. They were quite large with a large meatball filling and a decent amount of soup. The skins were thin. There was a high ratio of filling to skin.

A6. 涼拌小黃瓜 ($8)
Cucumber Salad
And I also had the cucumber salad. This was garlicky and cool, and quite salty, a bit too salty for my taste.

I wish i could try those dishes, they look and sound good, though it is a pity about the cucumber salad being too salty.
I wish i had pictures of dishes and descriptions of them by people i respect for every restaurant i go to. It would improve my hit to miss ratio immensely!
Hmmm…
I expect tbere will be a customizable app for that soon.

I had a late dinner at the Duboce Triangle Shanghai Dumpling King yesterday.

I started with the Shanghai Style Meat Wonton Soup (8) 云吞 ($13), which were quite nice. The wontons were pork filled and light in texture. The wrappers were quite soft as well. The soup I think was chicken based and had a lot of white pepper.

And also the Stir Fried Rice Cakes 炒年糕 ($14), another Shanghainese dish. These were quite nice as well. The rice cakes were a little chewy and had the texture of a thick ho fun, maybe a little chewier. There were some crunchy slightly charred cabbage and some slivers of pork as well.

I ate there a couple of years ago. Pork soup dumplings, twice cooked pork, and Szechuan beef. No complaints with any of it. Very good food.
