I thought you had a little Taiwanese or Shanghainese in you??
Eel. Lightly blanched, finished with hot oil.
I was debating between eel and bamboo shoots with pork belly for some reason.
Vegetarian lunch at the Xiyuan Temple. We had a mind changing vegetarian meal at another temple some time back.
Our first temple lunch experience was so good, I had no reservations about doing a repeat. Per standard procedure in China, admission with QR payment. The beautiful grounds well worth the 5 RMB (USD $0.70) entry alone.
Cooking a simple menu for thousands of folks a day has dialed in the cooking staff’s technique. The temple only dishes out two noodles.
Both were very delicious!!! Clean lip smacking Real flavors, noodles with good chew and bounce. We both agreed we would gladly eat these vegetarian noodles every day.
We slurped our lunch in the serene courtyard, shaded by pear and pomegranate trees.
The main dining hall was crowded as expected, with new waves of diners hovering for any openings. The non air-conditioned courtyard was a calm respite, the heat not withstanding.
The spacious temple grounds were a joy to wander. Noted for its many cats, pigeons and koi. Delightful!!
Grabbed a bag of vegetarian Bao’s for later, tempted to add their famous Mooncakes but passed.
Come for the temple, stay for the food!!
I love your robot butler!! And the food also looks delicious.
Both those noodle dishes look delicious!
I sort of regretted not eating a set menu at the vegetarian monastery restaurant in HK, but I don’t think it would have worked for 1 person. But even the quick-serve counter food was delicious.
