Shanghai ‘24 - Nanjing

Mis-timed our ride to Nanjing, arrived our hotel later than planned.

Checked in and squeezed into the Club Lounge with 30 minutes to spare. Loaded. Up. (Before gratis alcohol lockup)

Sampled a few tidbits. Saving space for real food for our first hours in Nanjing!!!

Should suffice until we venture out the rotating doors and score some real food.

Our Didi had to stop to recharge en route to Nanjing. The rest stop facility was impressive. .

The WC was massive and immaculate. At least one dedicated attendant continuously wiping and mopping.

Food options were many and most of the foods were fresh made, some to order.

Best Fried Chicken Sandwich I’ve ever had was in the Beijing train station many years ago. China KFC does chicken RIGHT!!!

Took a bit of will power to not grab this special.

Our Didi was a China EV equivalent of the Tesla S. Standards for the higher levels were consistent and comfortable.

Cars must offer two bottles of water, immaculate vehicles that are less than 5 years old, no extraneous odors, professional dress with ties. Drivers do not engage in conversation, unless spoken to. Didi hq tracks your progress and calls if any deviation from the most efficient route. The cabin is recorded, a very safe comfortable environment.

I seriously wonder if there is an inverse correlation between Dept. of Health and Safety regulations and food deliciousness.

Weird ass room. Huge round bathtub front and center. Almost like a love hotel room, sans mirrored ceiling.

Magnificent view, what one can see through the smog. China has modernized leaps and bounds, ‘ceptin the circa 1960’s type pollution. Yikes!!

Breakfast in-house. English Breakfast, been hungry for baked beans and tomatoes. Scratched that itch.

A bunch of Asian this and that. A balanced eclectic meal.

Dou Fa, Double Latte with a shot of Espresso.

Duck Blood, Gluten Puff, Glass Noodle and Cilantro Soup.

Some Cut Fruit and Juice to complete this simple breakfast.

Oink. Oink.

Final Happy Hour before Suzhou tomorrow.

Gonna miss the view.

Kitchen sink salad was so good!

Salami and Mortadella Maki Sushi. Move over, Iron Chef!!!

Just a bit of everything, please.

Saved a little room for dessert.

Staff gifted wife a bottle of wine, just because.

Fabulous walk around the lake this morning.

Reverse view of our room.

Dumplings literally across the street from our hotel. Don’t even need to call Didi Eats.

Impromptu dumpling crafting session.

No whiskey on this trip so far?

Sometimes a nice club lounge dinner can be all that’s needed to reset one’s senses…

Funny you should mention that.

I availed myself to a few Jim Beam the first HH. No brown liquor on tap on subsequent visits. :person_shrugging:

It’s cool. Trying to be “good” and stuck to red wine and beer.

Now if this was Japan, I would’ve insisted on Hi-ball fixin’s.

Since you are in Jiangnan, get some 30 year Hua diaos and tell us about it!

Dumplings and Noodles in this region is Comfort Food Heaven!!!

Random spot we wandered into last night. FOH couldn’t have been a day over 11yo. Very professional. No doubt he will succeed in his future endeavors.

Beef Potstickers, apparently a Nanjing specialty. Very VERY juicy. Almost squirted my wife. Again.

Wonton Soup.

Beef Offal Noodles. The noodles were OUTSTANDING!! Perfect chew with the most flavorful noodles themselves.

Passed this en route to the River Walk. A whole Roast Duck for $4.00!?!?!?

A good evening to take a boat ride or just walk about.

We’ve been pretty good.

In four days, we’ve only been for 1 breakfast, 1 high tea and 2 happy hours.

As a cost aware person, it KILLS me to leave food on the table. However, a mind boggling cascade of tasty REAL foods awaits mere metres beyond the gilded revolving doors and white gloved doormen.

I think our next hotel in Suzhou won’t have club lounge facilities, so we won’t have to fight the temptation. Fingers crossed.

Wife went downstairs to have a final breakfast with her friend.

I stayed in and had a lonely Marie Antoinette Breakfast:

“Let Them Eat Cake!!!”

And a cuppa Earl Gray.

This should suffice for the 3 hr Didi ride. Looking forward to what Suzhou goodies await us!!!
