As my wife translated for me, both our eyes teared up.

Do not be shy. If you are in need, order what food and drink you need. No need to pay if you are unable.
Help others when you are able.
All too often, Chinese people (tourists in particular) get a bad rap. Often portrayed in a less than positive light.
This is not some corporate monolith casting alms to generate good PR. Just a caring small shopkeeper giving back to her community. A beautiful thing.
