I had a square from the Golden Boy in the Parkside yesterday as a snack. The clam & garlic ($4.75), which was nice. I got a corner piece which means two crispy sides.
SF Eater rounds up pizzerias in the city.
Not pizza per se, but it was at Tony’s Pizza for their BIG meatball.
I had a pizza for dinner at Hesher’s Pizza & Taproom in Jack London Square in Oakland tonight.
Hesher’s has a heavy metal theme.
They have a pool table, board games, and pinball machines.
The menu
There’s beer, cider, wine, and soft drinks.
In addition to the full sized Detroit style pizzas, they also have a smaller size “one-hitter” pizza for one person. I had a one-hitter of one of the signature pizzas - the Canadian Tuxedo ($16.50), which has the unusual topping combination of blueberries, bleu cheese, and bacon. This combo, while a bit weird, worked really well together. The sweet blueberries were complemented well by the tangy creamy bleu cheese, and the bacon bits provided salty fatty crunch. The pizza is not as thick as Detroit style pies I’ve tried from e.g. Square Pie Guys and Cellarmaker House of Pizza, but the crust was quite nice with crispy edges. The one hitter size was plenty for dinner.
I also had a beer - a Gloomfang Hazy IPA from local brewer Ghost Town.

For dessert I walked down Broadway and had a slice of another type of pie (of the banana cream variety) from Nations.
Well well well, blueberries on a pizza. Those heshers sure do love their creative combos. On the other hand, I remember decades ago ordering one of the specials at Pauline’s Pizza (RIP) on Valencia. It had strawberries on it and was surprisingly good, although I don’t recall the other ingredients.
I’ll have to give Heshers a try next time I’m in Jack London.
It worked surprisingly well! Maybe its a bit like the polarizing pineapple on pizza (I’m a fan).
Yeah, really no different than things like figs and pear or like you mentioned, the OG pineapple
