I did a quickie comparison of these two “Self-serve” Udon restaurants. The bottom line, based on my limited sample: under optimum conditions, the quality is probably pretty much of a wash. For pricing and Gemütlichkeit, it’s a no-brainer. Check out Marugame once the lines get shorter.

Here is the menu and “Soup Nazi” style ordering instructions (which are also posted at the start of the ordering line. Interestingly, based on the Marugame website, prices at their LA location are actually lower.
Thanks for the tip about the lines. I was about to head there, but will choose an alternative.
