Seeking restaurant recommendates for Colonial Williamsburg and environs

Kind of a shot in the dark, I know.

I havent been back to WBurg since my kids were small. I have fond recollections of the site and of taking the ferry over to the other side of the James where there is a slower pace of life and towns like Smithfield and Surry, and a beautifull plantation to stroll - would have to look up its name. Eating places? We liked the Old Chickahominy House, touristy but also pleasant and good food. Liked the Brunswick Stew, Ham biscuits and pie - I think they have a good breakfast too which might be more eatable for you! Surry House we liked also but it is permanently closed. I believe you should be able to get good seafood, oysters etc in that area. Maybe it wont be too crowded but if it is there are other places to duck the crowds and enjoy beautiful slow moving southern spring - even the Yorktown battlefield.

Thanks! Old Chickahominy House looks like it’s only open for breakfast and lunch (and there’s 0 things on the lunch menu I can eat ), but I will add it to the map!

I haven’t been in years but my oldest (21 but loves food like us) went to a conference at William and Mary a few months ago and ate at Fat Canary. He said it was fantastic.

Thanks! I’m seeing a lot of recommendations for that.

Chippokes State Park. We went to some of the plantations on the N side of the river too but we really liked the lazier pace on the S side best. https://www.reddit.com/r/Virginia/comments/1ju2g6q/james_river_any_recommendations_on_which/

Here’s a strong recommendation for Two Drummers up the road in Toano. They have a trained chef and also make some of the best barbecue in VA. I’ve written about it a couple of times.

Thanks! If we get up to York River State Park, that might make a good lunch spot.

God only knows what its like now tho. Maybe all the beautiful quiet land south of the James has been developed into super mansions or something!
