Our exodus from Israel this past weekend involved a flight from Aqaba to Larnaca. We arrived too late to make a connection. We were grateful to find a holiday apartment available for one night, every hotel within 20 km of the airport being fully booked. Our daugther spotted SeaNatra on the web, about a 10 minute walk from our apartment, so we wandered over for a late night bite before grabing 4 hours of sleep and heading back to the airport. It turrned out to be a perfect momentary respite from the stress of getting home under difficult circumstances.
Most of the restaurant is open-air (though covered). It is on the ocean but we couldn’t discern much at night. There was live music, a singer, and it was not obtrusive even though they bill themselves as a nightclub/bar. The space is airy and pleasant. We deserved cocktails to celebrate our safe passage, my spouse and daughter enjoyed mojitos that were pleasantly not as sweet as you typically encounter, very refreshing. I had the house cocktail, a mandarin-flavored gin-based concoction with , Masticha, fresh lime, and “pink soda”. It was served with a spoon that had a gum/taffy-like substance, possibly the resinous gum that is used to make Masticha? Also very refreshing.
We had smoked eggplant dip and octopus carpaccio to start, also bread, olives and very good olive oil to start. A “heritage Greek” salad was OK but not quite what were expecting, included salad greens in addition to the usual suspects (tomato, cucumber, feta). For mains we shared lamb gyros “tacos”, with pulled lamb with fermented cabbage and yogurt suace on pita “tacos”, and Iberia pork souvlaki, with tzatziki, chimichurri, and a small side salad. Both mains were really good.
If you find yourself transiting Larnaca, it’s worth a short cab ride from the airport.
